How to look after of your heart

The way to a healthy heart is through the stomach!

Do’s

Have a balanced diet - it will make you feel much better and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
Eat lots of fruit and vegetables (at least 5 – 7 serving a day)
Eat a variety of grain products especially whole grains
Choose fat-free and low fat products, and eat more fish, beans and pulses, and lean meat.
Combine this with regular exercise - even 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day will help you, and this includes walking and dancing!
Consult your doctor regularly.

Don’t

Food that are high in calories and low in nutritional value like soft drinks, sweets, pastries and cakes should be avoided.
Foods that are high in animal fats and cholesterol should be kept to a minimum - also avoid fried food.
If you drink alcohol, limit it to one drink a day if you are a woman, or two if you are a man.
Make sure you reduce the salt in your diet, especially if you have high blood pressure.
